WhatsApp to enable web app users to make voice and video calls

  • The social media platform has launched a new host of interesting features.
  • WhatsApp is currently testing the voice and video call feature on the beta version of its web application.

One of the leading messaging and social media giants- WhatsApp, has reportedly announced launch of a new host of interesting features for its web app recently. The messaging app is now testing features to enhance its web app by introducing the possibility of making voice as well as video calls.

As per credible reports, Alex Hern of the Guardian was apparently the first one to spot the feature on WhatsApp beta. It has been claimed that Alex shared a screenshot of the feature and quoted that WhatsApp was testing voice and video calls on its desktop app.

In addition to this, in the screenshot shared by him, the call and video icon are clearly visible beside the contact name. Both the icons have Beta written over them that confirms that the company is currently testing the feature.

Today, desktop version users are only allowed to exchange media and messages and this novel move would clearly improve their experience while enabling them to make professional as well as conference calls on the desktop. According to various sources, earlier in October 2020, WAbetainfo- a WhatsApp features tracker- had shared a similar update.

Speaking on similar lines, a report by WAbetainfo stated that the platform had already put forth speculations of WhatsApp working on Calls. Besides, it is elated to announce the new details, provided from WhatsApp Web 2.2043.7 update. The messaging app is considering the idea of offering video and voice calls in the next few weeks to its Web App users, even if the development is in a beta-stage.

This apart the messaging application’s new group call feature is also likely to expand as a professional video conferencing platform for smaller groups.
