NBA Legend Auctions Off Memorabilia, Raises Nearly $3 Million For Kids

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar raises money for charity

No one has scored more points in NBA history than Bucks and Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And possibly no other basketball star has also done as much for kids as The Captain has off the hardwood.

Abdul-Jabbar recently auctioned off hundreds of pieces of memorabilia, including four championship rings, for his charity, the (aptly named) Skyhook Foundation, to raise money for children to learn science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

In total, the Hall of Famer’s keepsakes — some of hoops lore’s most precious — fetched over $2.9 million. For Abdul-Jabbar, the choice was clear.

“When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple. Sell it all,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote on his website.
